NEW NORTH AMERICAN SPECIES OF BEES BELONGINGTO THE GENUS HALICTUS (CHLORALICTUS) . By Grace Adelbert Sandhouse,of the University of Colorado, Boulder.INTRODUCTION.Since the name Chloralictus was suggested by Robertson in 1902for certain of the metallic-colored Halictine bees, many interesting newspecies have been added to this subgenus. The Rocky MountainStates, with their very diverse habitats, have yielded a majority ofthe species, and still continue to yield many species. Through theefforts of Robertson considerable knowledge of the CMoralicti ofIllinois has been given us, and the Chloralictus fauna of the east-central States seems to be quite like that of Illinois. The numberof species reported from the vSouthern States has been remarkablysmall, a few having been recorded from Florida. In the PacificStates, California has yielded several very interesting species. In the collection of Prof. T. D. A. Cockerell, of the University ofColorado, is a number of Chloralictus?both male and females?fromwidely separated localities. Durmg the last year the writer has beenprivileged to work up this collection under the supervision of Pro-fessor Cockerell. The result has been an unusually large number ofnew species. In very few cases were there representatives of the twosexes from one locality; or, if so represented, the differences betweenthe sexes were so great that it was not considered advisable to at-tempt to match them until further data were obtained. Keys havebeen compiled for all of the species represented in Professor Cock-erell's collection as well as the new species, but it was not found prac-ticable to include in these key species known only from descriptions.KEY TO FEMALES OF HALICTUS (CHLORALICTUS).'Comparatively large, anterior wing at least 6 mm. long; wings somewhat dusky, except in connexus 1Smaller species, usually with paler wings 91.
