January 2 Arriving, SCOTT ARMBRUSTER, Univ. of Alaska, for 2 weeks to carry out studies on the reproductive ecology and systematics of Neotropical Delechampia. ANN HERTZIG will be assisting him. Dr. Armbruster will also be conducting a course for 7 students on "Field methods in plant-animal coevolutionary ecology." January 2 - Returning, STEVE HUB BELL, for 2 months. January 2 - Arriving, TIMOTHY COLLINS, Yale University, on a Short term Fellowship, to study evolution of amphi-american gastropod cognates. He will be at the Naos Marine Laboratory. December 27, 1985 AGREEMENT SIGNED The Bunker Laboratory on Naos Island occupied by the University of Panama's Center for Marine Sciences and Limnology was officially transferred to the University of Panama through an agreement signed Monday, December 23 by CEFERINO SANCHEZ, rector of the University of Panama, and STRI director IRA RUBINOFF. THE YEAR THAT WAS: 1 9 8 5 STRI was visited by Smithsonian Secretary ROBERT McC. ADAMS and ' by members of the Board of Directors of the W. ALTON JONES FOUNDATION. The Government of Panama extended to STRI the benefits and prerogatives that correspond to international missions operating in the Republic. Two books were published by members of the ST RI staff: Communication and Non- communication by Cephalopods by MARTIN MOYNIHAN and Sexual Selection and Animal Genitalia by WILLIAM G. EBERHARD. Three books were edited or written by research associates: The Tungara Frog: a Study in Sexual Selection and Communication by MICHAEL J. RYAN; Agonfa de la Naturaleza, STANLEY HECK- ADON and JAIME. ESPINOSA (eds.), and The Botany and Natural History of PanamA, WILLIAM G. D'ARCY and MIREYA C. CORREA (eds.) ROBERT DRESSLER accepted a part-time appointment at the University of Florida, and PETER GLYNN resigned to accept a position at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. GENE MONTGOMERY terminated his appointment to pursue other interests. Work began on the Phase II of the Master Plan of ST RI facilities to be completed in March 1986. LEONOR MOTTA, FERNANDO PASCAL, FRANCISO RIVERA, CARL HANSEN, HUGH CAFFEY, LIVINGSTON GA YLE, MILTON GARCIA, and ANDRES RAMOS joined the administrative I support staff.
