Abstract

A new species of hummingbird, the Bogota Sunangel (Heliangelus zusii), is described from a unique specimen purchased in 1909 in Bogota, Colombia. Heliangelus zusii is intermediate in plumage between ungorgeted H. regalis and the typical gorgeted species in the genus. Now possibly extinct because of habitat destruction, H. zusii may have inhabited cloud forest and forest edge in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes.
