Liana infestation dynamicss for trees from Barro Colorado Island. Marco D. Visser, S. Joseph Wright and David Brassfield Data was collected in and around the 50-ha Forest Dynamics Plot (FDP) on Barro Colorado Island, Panama (the southwest corner of the FDP is located at 625773 easting and 1011774 northing in UTM Zone 17). The presence of lianas in tree crowns was recorded for 859 trees ≥ 20 cm dbh in the 50 ha plot in 1996 and 2007 and for 1079 trees ≥ 20 cm dbh in four 4-ha plots located near the 50 ha plot in 2005 and 2015. For each tree, crown liana infestation status was evaluated from the ground using binoculars in the years defined above (details on field methodology given in Visser et al. 2018, Wright el al 2005). We classified each tree as liana-free (F) or liana-infested (I) in the initial census, and as F, I, or dead (D) in the final census. Columns tag unique tag for individual tree species species name sp sp code F1 infestation status first census (F = liana free, I = liana present in crown) F2 infestation status second census (F = liana free, I = liana present in crown, D = tree observed to be dead) plot plot where measurements took place. FDP= 50-ha Forest Dynamics Plot (FDP), AVA,DRAYTON, PEARSON & ZETEK = each refer to a single 4-ha "tower" plot.
